Western Sustainable Leaders Program (WSLP)
The WSLP is a student community for learning, connecting, and taking practical action toward a more sustainable campus and future.
Sustainability looks different for everyone.
Through events, conversations, hands-on activities, and connections across campus, the WSLP gives students space to learn from one another, discover new perspectives, and take meaningful action in ways that feel realistic and relevant to them.
In collaboration with the Office of Sustainability, the WSLP is actively advancing the goals and priorities in Western’s Climate and Sustainability Strategy by engaging the student community.

This program has been designed collaboratively by Western Sustainability and a team of students! We believe student leadership is key for sustainability and have built this program to benefit students and build leadership skills in a number of ways:
- Find practical ways to make sustainability part of your everyday life.
- Build connections with students, staff and professors from different faculties, clubs, and other areas of campus.
- Discover new ways to engage with sustainability on campus and beyond.
- Take part in hands-on events and campus initiatives that help advance Western’s Climate and Sustainability Strategy.

Bike to Campus Day Booth - September 18 @ 8:00AM - 12:00pm
Visit the WSLP at the Bike Fair at the Western Sustainability tent to learn about the benefits of active transportation and how Western is supporting sustainable transportation!
Welcome Picnic - September 25 @ 3:30pm - 5:30pm
Kick off the year with the Western Sustainability Leadership Program (WSLP)! 🌱
Whether you're new to campus or returning for another year, this welcome event is a great opportunity to meet fellow students, connect with the WSLP executive team, and learn about exciting opportunities to get involved.
Post Homecoming Clean-Up - September 27 @ 10:00am - 11:30am
After the excitement of Homecoming, help keep Western beautiful by taking part in a clean-up. Students will work together along a designated campus route to collect litter and help reduce pollution, protect local ecosystems, and support a sustainable campus environment.
Fall Green Tour - October 6 @ 11:30am - 12:30pm
Join the Western Sustainable Leaders Program (WSLP) for a guided Green Tour and discover some of campus' most beautiful gardens and green spaces.
Sustainability Fair Booth - October 23 @ 11:30am - 1:00pm
Visit the WSLP booth at the Sustainability Fair to learn more about how to get involved with the program! Spin the trivia wheel to test your sustainability knowledge for a chance to win fun swag!

Welcome Picnic
Students gathered on UC Hill to connect with peers, enjoy outdoor activities, and learn more about sustainability opportunities on campus as they kicked off the academic year.
WSLP x EnviroUSC x GreenSort Post-Hoco Clean-Up
Volunteers came together after Homecoming to help clean campus and demonstrate the power of collective action in creating a more sustainable community.
Biodiversity and Wellness Walk
Led by Dr. Tim Hain, participants explored the river trail on campus making observations and contributing to the Biodiversity Inventory through the iNaturalist app.
Cozy Documentary Night
Students came together to unwind, connect with peers interested in sustainability, and enjoy a documentary paired with interactive activities.
Attendees examined how cities can be designed to support sustainability, resilience, and community well-being through thoughtful planning and innovative approaches.
Gardening Reimagined with FOGs
In collaboration with Friends of the Garden (FOGs), participants reconnected with nature through hands-on planting activities, exploring the benefits of gardening for personal well-being and environmental sustainability.
Students heard from panelists working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and sustainability, discussing emerging technologies, opportunities, and challenges.
