Earn credit on your co-curricular record!
Western’s third annual “Our Green Campus” series will begin on Wednesday, February 3, 2016.
Facilities Management and Hospitality Services, in partnership with the Student Success Centre, EnviroWestern and Brescia’s FRESH Peer Educators will be hosting a three-part series focusing on Environmental Sustainability. Each module will consist of a one-hour lecture, followed by a one-hour interactive cooking component. This year’s topics and dates are:
Module 1 - Choosing Local (Wednesday, February 3, 6-8pm): Presenters will engage the audience in a lively discussion around the local food movement. Help make pesto and serve it up with freshly made crepes during the second hour.
Module 2 – Local Farming (Wednesday, March 2, 6-8pm): Dave McEachren operates McEachren Model Centre Farms where he crops field corn, soybeans and wheat, while raising pure-bread Hereford beef cattle. Join us as we get creative with beans during a one-hour interactive component.
Module 3 – Preserving Food (Wednesday, March 23, 6-8pm): Learn about the many ways cultures have historically preserved foods and examining ways that we can re-introduce some of these methods in our daily lives. Join the FRESH team in a smoothie making session.
Students must plan to participate in the lecture and interactive component in order to receive credit on their co-curricular records. They will receive credit for each module they attend, and do not need to attend all three. However, students who attend all three modules will receive a certificate acknowledging their commitment to sustainability.
Registration is open on a first come, first served basis. There is a maximum capacity of 50 students for each module.
