Tuesday, October 5, 2021 marks the inaugural Sustainability Fair at Western! Co-hosted by the Office of Sustainability, Western Sustainability Leaders Program (WSLP), SOGS Sustainability, and EnviroWestern, this collaborative event provides sustainability-related clubs and groups on campus with an opportunity to network with one another as well as members of the campus community.
A variety of sustainability-related clubs and groups were invited to participate, and in total there are 14 organizations taking part. The four co-organizing groups:
- Western Sustainability
- Western Sustainability Leaders Program
- SOGS Sustainability
And 10 participating groups:
- Centre for Environment and Sustainability
- Environmental Science Association
- Food Resources & Education for Student Health (FRESH)
- Huron Green Club
- Masters of Environment and Sustainability
- Student Energy
- Undergraduate Engineering Society - Sustainability Committee
- Western Active Transportation Society
- Western iGEM
- Western University Vegan Society
This is the first time all 14 of these groups are coming together for an event, which includes representation from undergraduate, graduate, main campus, and affiliates. The Fair is taking place under the tent on Concrete Beach with a table for each group to share information and resources to invite the campus community to get involved!
The goal is to bring these groups together, and others who wish to become involved, three times over the course of the year during Fall, Winter, and Spring months. Through these events and connections, groups are better enabled to interact with one another to strengthen the network of sustainability-related groups at Western. This type of collaboration is essential to tackle the challenges of climate change, as an interdisciplinary collaborative approach can yield innovative solutions.
Please see the event programme which highlights goals and initiatives of each of these fantastic groups!
